Health Canada has approved a second COVID-19 vaccine for distribution.
The federal government announced today that the vaccine developed by Moderna received approval after being reviewed to ensure that it meets all requirements.
In total, Ottawa ordered 40-million doses of the vaccine—enough to innoculate 20-million Canadians—with upwards of 168,000 expected to arrive by month’s end.
The company expects shipments will begin within the next 28 hours.
Health Canada says the vaccine is currently authorized for those ages 18 and up, with further trials underway for those 12 and above.
This follows the approval of the Pfizer vaccine, announced earlier this month.
