Most Canadians don’t expect a return to “normal” until at least next fall according to a recent Angus Reid survey.
Parts of the country are re-entering lockdown as the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic rages on, but so far Newfoundland and Labrador has managed to avoid the worst of the virus’ spread.
That doesn’t mean that things won’t be drastically different this year. The Chief Medical Officer of Health is asking people to keep their Christmas holiday contacts to a total of 20 people through the season.
The latest Angus Reid survey of Canadians shows that 44 per cent of all respondents are most looking forward to returning to regular activities in the community without stress. Forty-three per cent are most looking forward to physical contact with family and friends including hugs and handshakes, while 42 per cent are looking forward to a resumption in international travel.
One in five Canadians say that the return to a pre-pandemic normal will never happen. Forty-eight per cent of those who said they will not get vaccinated against the virus think things will never return to normal while 15 per cent of those who will get the vaccine believe the same.
