The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay says it will work with the privacy commissioner in the use of body cams for municipal enforcement.
The body cam came into prominence in October when an Inuk man was seen being thrown to the ground by the municipal enforcement officer. The town hired an independent investigator who concluded that there was no evidence to suggest that he did not follow procedure and protocol.
Mayor Wally Anderson says body cams provide protection not only for the general public, but enforcement staff who frequently have to endure verbal abuse from residents.
