This will be one of the most welcome Christmas breaks ever in the K-12 education system.
It has been a trying year with special measures for COVID-19 turning school life upside down for teachers, staff and the student body.
Dean Ingram, president of the NLTA, says teachers are still concerned about the unwillingness to close a school even when somebody in the school tests positive for COVID-19.
He agrees with the school board directive that students have all learning material with them over the holidays in case something changes and school does not reopen January 4. Ontario has added at least an extra week to the winter break.
Ingram says teachers and students across the country are finding it difficult to cope, which is a strain on the mental health of many.
