Officials with the Salmonier Nature Park are on the lookout for a lynx that recently escaped from its enclosure.
The Department of Fisheries, Forestry, and Agriculture is asking residents in the area to exercise caution and report any lynx sightings to park staff.
The animal escaped the enclosure when the fence was damaged by a fallen tree.
A similar incident happened back in 2012 when significant damage caused by Tropical Storm Leslie resulted in a number of animals escaping their enclosures. All the animals, including some moose and caribou and three lynx, were eventually safely returned—although one of the big cats remained missing for a while before eventually being recaptured.
Lynx are notoriously elusive, but if spotted, officials are asking that they not be approached. The animal is believed to still be in the area of the park.
Anyone encountering or sighting a Canada Lynx in the Salmonier Line area is asked to contact Salmonier Nature Park at: 709-229-7888, or the Paddy’s Pond Forestry & Wildlife Office at: 709-729-4180 or 709-685-7273 after hours. More info: https://t.co/fPfUJaASQQ pic.twitter.com/oULurCNBlp
