A 26-year-old from Bristol’s Hope lost his vehicle and licence after police caught him breaking the speed limit by 70 km/h despite hazardous conditions.
Officers were patrolling the Trans-Canada Highway near Salmonier Line when they spotted a pickup truck cruising at 170 km/h. Police indicate that it was snowing and roads were slushy at the time.
RCMP stopped the driver, handed him a ticket for excessive speeding, and seized both his licence and truck.
Meanwhile, during the traffic stop, the officer was splashed by another driver who passed by without changing lanes or reducing their speed.
The 29-year-old Mount Pearl man was also pulled over and handed a $390 ticket and four demerit points for failing to follow the “move over” law.
