There are seven new confirmed cases and 21 presumptive cases of COVID-19 in Newfoundland and Labrador today.
In the Eastern Health region:
- One under 20 years of age;
- One between 40-49 years of age;
- Two between 60-69 years of age; and,
- Two over 70 years of age.
In the Western Health region:
- One between 50-59 years of age, travel-related.
There have been five recoveries since yesterday’s update, and one person is in hospital due to the virus. There are 298 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.
The Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Janice Fitzgerald says people must reduce their contacts and follow all public health measures as Eastern Health has identified more unlinked chains of transmission.
Dr. Fitzgerald says public health is processing record number of tests every day and working to get wait times down for those calling 811. She says right now it will take about 72 hours to get a call back to arrange for testing, she says they hope to get that wait time down to 48 hours by the end of the day.
She says if you’ve been exposed, but not notified by public health you need to stay home.
If you’re symptomatic, someone’s positive in your house, you’ve been exposed to a positive case, or are waiting on a test result – you must isolate.
If you can’t do that away from household members, the whole household isolates. @VOCMNEWS #covid19nfld

The Department of Health and Community Services is asking passengers who traveled on Air Canada Flight 7484 from Toronto to Deer Lake that left on Thursday, February 11, 2021, and arrived on Friday, February 12, 2021, to arrange for testing.
Passengers can complete the online self-assessment and referral tool, or call 811 to arrange testing.
Public Health says they’re asking out of an abundance of caution and in relation to the case reported in the Western Health region today.
