Seniors are the latest group to express concern over the mail-in ballot process for the ongoing provincial election.
The province’s Seniors’ Advocate, Dr. Suzanne Brake, is calling on Chief Electoral Officer Bruce Chaulk to further extend the mail-in ballot deadline.
Brake says she’s hearing from seniors who are having difficulty getting access to the ballots and she feels more time is required.
She points out that many older adults don’t have a computer and there’s a critical need to bolster Elections NL telephone supports so seniors have more contact with election officials throughout the process.
Brake feels an added week or two would help clear up any confusion as she’s troubled by the ‘many, many’ people who report answering machines and hang-ups while attempting to apply.
She believes more time will ensure everything is running smoothly so that seniors can feel confident about voting.
