A man from Brigus Junction was arrested for drunk driving after his truck struck a home in the community on Valentine’s Day afternoon.
While police from Holyrood and Traffic Services East were en route to the collision, they learned that the 57-year-old—whose keys had been taken—was now operating a tractor in the community.
Police located the driver who showed signs of impairment, he was then taken to the detachment where he blew 2.5 times the legal limit.
RCMP seized and impounded the vehicle and his driver’s licence was suspended. As well, he was ticketed for having no insurance, operating an unregistered vehicle, and failing to transfer ownership.
He will appear in court on May 25 to answer to the charges.
Last year, 30 per cent of the fatal crashes within RCMP jurisdiction in Newfoundland and Labrador involved an impaired driver.
