The union representing local postal workers says they’re up to the challenge of the mail-in ballot process for the provincial election.
ElectionsNL decided to switch completely to the mail-in process after the province moved to Alert Level 5 during the current COVID outbreak.
Craig Dyer is chief shop steward for the Canadian Union of Postal Workers’ Local 126. He says the employees realize how important the mail-in ballots are to the democratic process, adding they’ll do their jobs to the best of their ability.
Dyer says the only delay he foresees would be associated with weather and associated transportation issues.
VOCM News has also reached out to officials with Canada Post, but there’s been no formal response yet.
The deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot is 8 p.m. this Friday. The deadline for a completed voting kit to be received by Elections NL is March 5.
