Eastern Health has reduced the number of services it provides at its facilities in accordance with Alert Level 5 Protocols, but just because services aren’t happening in person doesn’t mean they aren’t available.
Services at the Health Sciences are now largely being reserved for patients who require urgent or emergent care.
However, CEO David Diamond explains that most of what has been postponed are elective procedures that can be moved to a later date.
He says procedures like cardiac and cancer surgeries will “in all likelihood” be going ahead. As well, he says mental health services, like Doorways, are still being provided and may be moved online in some cases.
He says the changes have been made to reduce traffic in their facilities, and free up space to care for COVID patients if necessary.
Diamond says that situations that can be tended to by a family physician should be, but says if you are in an urgent situation to visit the emergency room.
