Daycares across the province have been open for two days now under Alert Level 5, but operators and educators alike still have a slew of questions as to how they are supposed to be operating.
Meredith Loveys, Co/Vice Chair of the Association of Early Childhood Educators, says that when the province went into lockdown last March, daycares were given a very clear set of detailed guidelines to abide by.
This time, Loveys calls the guidelines the province has given out “minimal,” leaving several key questions unanswered such as what kids can be present, what the ratios should be, and what the capacity limits in each of the centres should be.
Loveys argues that there are a lot of grey areas that have been left, causing “extreme amounts of stress” for ECEs.
She says most workers she has talked with are stressed and anxious and worry about the health and safety of themselves and the children.
