A man from Nain is facing a number of charges, including impaired operation of a snowmobile, stemming from an incident early Saturday morning.
Around 1:30 a.m., Nain RCMP received a report of an impaired snowmobile driver. They attempted to pull the driver over, but he failed to stop, venturing out over sea ice.
He abandoned the machine and started to climb up a mountain before being apprehended by police.
It was later found that the snowmobile was taken without the owner’s consent.
Now, 35-year-old Johnny Merksuratsuk-Harris is facing multiple charges including an impaired, flight from police, taking a vehicle without consent, and failing to comply with a probation order.
He has already made two court appearances and is set to make a third today.
Nain RCMP has charged four individuals with impaired driving offences since January 28, 2021.
