As of last night, Elections NL had received requests for ballots from some 90,000 people. Some of those requests were for more than one ballot but Elections NL did not have any breakdown.
Staff at the agency are poised to move to counting phase once the deadline for requesting ballots has come and gone.
That deadline is 8:00 tonight but the Chief Electoral Officer, when asked whether that was hard and fast on the VOCM Morning Show, answered that you never say never.
The deadline to get them in is March 5 but on that count, Bruce Chaulk says if you send the ballot in, it will be counted.
He says they are discussing delivery times with the service provider, Canada Post.
Chaulk adds that they have sent ballots out to nursing homes and the like which have requested them not on behalf of any one person, but for all residents.
