The province’s privacy commissioner has ruled in favour of the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay in their decision to withhold footage involving a municipal enforcement officer.
A request was made for the town to release body camera and vehicle camera footage involving the officer’s detainment of a person.
The town denied the request on the basis that it’s part of a workplace investigation, and that it could be harmful to personal and public safety, harmful to law enforcement, and harmful to personal privacy.
A review found that while the town had inappropriately applied certain exceptions to access, they did act correctly in regards to the personal information of various third parties. On that basis, the commissioner has recommended that the town continue to withhold the footage.
