The City of Corner Brook is recognizing a man for his years of dedication to local sports.
A soccer pitch at the Wellington Complex is being named after Hall of Famer Doug Sweetapple.
A joint proposal was brought before city council in October, attesting to his dedication to the sport and growing the local soccer community. It received unanimous support from council.
The official naming ceremony is set to take place this spring.
Doug Sweetapple was inducted into the NL Soccer Hall of Fame in 1987, and holds a lifetime honorary membership in the Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer Association.
