The Gathering Place is adjusting its services to comply with Alert Level 5 restrictions.
The community health centre serves many vulnerable people in the St. John’s area, providing meals, clothing, and a warm place to stay, among other services.
Now, the organization is focusing on its meal and shelter services. Instead of the typical meal service where participants would eat inside the building, the organization is providing takeaway meals three times a day.
The shelter is still available for those who do not have a home to go to, however, guests will be screened and Public Health measures are in effect. The shelter has protocols in place in case a guest begins to show symptoms of the virus.
While some services have been temporarily cut, executive director Kim Grant says they are still trying to get every guest the help they need.
She says they have many guests battling addictions and mental health issues.
