The provincial government is cautioning people about a recent round of fraudulent phone calls claiming to be from the Department of Digital Government and Service NL.
Residents have reported receiving automated phone calls claiming to represent the department’s legal branch.
Officials state that the phone calls are not authentic. Anyone who receives one is advised to hang up immediately.
Display information on Caller ID may be falsified, and shouldn’t be taken as proof of identification.
Anyone who receives a suspicious phone call is encouraged to report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
