The former owner of Exit Realty on The Rock has been released from jail after serving almost six months of a two-year sentence.
Anne Squires had been doing her time at the Correctional Centre for Women in Clarenville since being sentenced on September 10 of last year.
Squires tells VOCM News that she continues to abide by all conditions set down by the court, adding the entire ordeal has caused the “utmost amount of trauma” for her, her family, and friends. She also acknowledged the impact on those wronged by her actions.
The 62-year-old Squires was charged in 2016, nine months after Exit Realty on The Rock saw its licence revoked and the company going into receivership.
She admitted to stealing from her own company as well as defrauding AccessEasyFunds, a payday loan firm that services the real estate industry.
In sentencing Squires last fall, Justice Robert Stack noted the “deceit and dishonesty” she displayed in committing acts of fraud, forgery, theft, and breach of trust. He gave her a total of six years on all counts but allowed some to run concurrently for a total of two years less two days.
Squires must also pay back about $500,000 to EasyAccessFunds.
She remains on probation until September 2022.
