Reports of roaming wolves in and around the community of Port Hope Simpson, Labrador, have prompted a warning from wildlife officials.
Conservation officers are conducting patrols in and around the community.
The Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture says wolves have been known to occasionally attack small to medium-sized pets.
Pet owners are asked to keep their animals indoors or in confined areas, like a fenced yard, and limiting the time pets spend outside, especially after dark.
Officials also warn that feeding pets outdoors may attract animals like wolves and polar bears.
If you encounter a wolf, stay calm, give the animal plenty of room, back away slowly, and avoid direct eye contact.
Wolf sightings should be reported to the Port Hope Simpson District Forestry and Wildlife Office at 709-960-0400 during regular business office hours, or 709-897-7116 after hours and on weekends.
