Eastern Health has released more detailed information regarding the schools affected by the recent outbreak of COVID-19 in the metro region.
The health authority has released the names of 22 schools. As of February 22nd, 185 students and/or staff associated with the schools had tested positive: 145 of those are staff and/or students at Mount Pearl Senior High, with the remaining 40 cases being across the other 21 schools.
Due to the small number of cases in the other schools, Eastern Health is not releasing the case counts for fear of identifying the people involved. They note that the numbers do not identify whether or not someone attended school while infectious. If you were not, or are not, contacted by Public Health, you are not considered a close contact.
English School District CEO Tony Stack says they’re concerned over releasing information that could impact those in the school community, however, they do not regularly receive such information from public health, noting that it is not their information to withhold or disclose.
