New data from the Canadian Institute for Health Information shows that COVID infections among Canadian health care workers have tripled since the end of July… but the figures released today do not reflect recent events in Newfoundland and Labrador.
CIHI says in the last six months, almost all provinces saw an increase in COVID-19 infections in health care workers. In Newfoundland and Labrador 27 health care workers tested positive, representing 6.8 per cent of all cases, which is on par with percentages in provinces like Ontario and Alberta.
CIHI’s figures are before the latest surge in cases linked to community spread of the UK variant in the metro region.
As of January 15th, the total number of positive cases among health care workers reached 65,920, triple that in July.
The western provinces, B.C. Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba experienced larger percentage increases compared to other areas of the country.
