A decision is coming today regarding Level 5 restrictions across the province.
The measures were put in place province-wide two weeks ago today, meaning it is time for Public Health to decide whether or not to renew them.
The outbreak has been contained to the Eastern Health region, with other areas of the province not seeing any significant spike in cases. This has led some to call for restrictions outside the metro region to be lifted or eased.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janice Fitzgerald says more information will be available today regarding the measures, and how quickly we could be moving out of them.
Dr. Fitzgerald will be joined by Health Minister Dr. John Haggie and Premier Andrew Furey.
Meanwhile, The long-awaited plans for Phases 2 and 3 of the COVID-19 vaccine rollout will also be unveiled.
Questions have been swirling ever since the first vaccinations began last December about where certain groups fit within the rollout.
Dr. Fitzgerald prefaces the announcement by reminding people that all rollout plans are dependent on vaccine supply and recommendations on dosing intervals. However, she does believe the plan will provide some clarity.
She believes it will help people see where they fit within the plan and help them govern themselves accordingly.
The briefing will be carried live this afternoon at 2 p.m. NST on VOCM—1:30 p.m. in most of Labrador.
