The path to recovery will be a long one for many communities in the Atlantic region and even longer for some sectors.
That’s according to a new report that measures the vulnerability of some industries and communities to the economic impact of the pandemic.
Director of Major Projects with the Atlantic Canada Economic Council and author of the report, Patrick Brannon says Newfoundland and Labrador is particularly vulnerable.
That’s because our economy is reliant on things like fishing, oil, construction and transportation. If the pandemic drags on employment in those sectors may take a hit.
That said, Brannon says they do expect some of those sectors to bounce back post-pandemic, but some rural areas will have a particularly difficult time because of their reliance on certain industries.
