Delegates from across the province are gathering in St. John’s for CUPE NL’s 50th annual convention at the Delta Hotel Conference Centre.
The theme of this year’s convention is Why Politics Matter, and will encourage members to get involved in their community—particularly as it relates to the recent push toward the privatization of various services.
CUPE NL President Sherry Hillier says this morning they unveiled a trailer which will travel the province to highlight their concerns.
The utility trailer is wrapped in banners with the messages “Stop Privatization Now” and “End P3s”. She says the trailer will travel around the province meeting with people and discussing their concerns.
National President Mark Hancock delivered the keynote address this morning with Jessica McCormick among the guest speakers this afternoon.
The NDP’s Jim Dinn will address delegates tomorrow along with federal NDP President Mary Shortall.
