COVID-19 vaccinations have begun for first responders across the island.
Vince MacKenzie, the fire chief at the Grand Falls-Windsor fire department, received his shot yesterday.
He posted a photo of his vaccination on Twitter, saying it will help ease the stress of responding to emergencies, and encourages everyone to get vaccinated.
On behalf of #GFWFIRE, our gratitude to @CentralHealthNL and @CMOH_NL for first responder clinic in @towngfw. Local firefighters & police vaccinated this week. It helps ease the stress of responding to emergencies. We encourage all to get the Covid19 shot once you are eligible. pic.twitter.com/Ts2EReNCct

Vaccinations are now underway in the metro region as well. Later today VOCM News will be at one of the clinics to document some of the first vaccinations in the area.
Meanwhile, first responders in the Labrador Grenfell-Health region are set to start getting their shots beginning next week.
