Paramedics and associated personnel employed with the largest private employer providing ambulance services in our province are set to take a vote on targeted job action.
Teamsters Local 855 is disappointed that negotiations have broken down, saying that leaves their members with no choice but to take the next step.
The union says they have not seen a wage increase since 2014 when they got two per cent, but it accuses the employer of trying to claw that back. In addition to improved wages, workers are looking for a retirement package and overtime payments.
Local 855 is appealing to the provincial government to intervene.
Services affected are:
- 13910 Ltd. (Holyrood, Conception Bay South)
- Ferryland Emergency Services Ltd.
- Fewer’s Ambulance Service
- Gambo Ambulance Service
- Mercer’s Ambulance Service
- Ryan’s Ambulance Service
- Tremblett’s Ambulance Service on Bell Island
The union says there is no loss of emergency service and anyone who needs an ambulance should call 911.
