An emotional gathering on Random Island earlier this week to remember a woman who was passionate about the local walking trails.
Thursday marked one year since the passing of Donna Vardy, a passionate volunteer who was involved in a number of local organizations including local ground search and rescue, the SPCA, and was an advocate for the resettled community of Pope’s Harbour.
Since her passing her husband David Vardy, along with family and friends have volunteered their time to create a 3.9 km walking trail around Long Pond on Random Island.
Her family gathered Thursday around a sign dedicating the Long Pond Memorial Walking Trail and Picnic Area known as Donna’s Way.
