Metro Property Management is turning to the public for some help for seven International students who lost everything in a recent fire on Freshwater Road.
The students were originally set up in a hotel for three days, and Memorial University has stepped up to offer three weeks of housing, but that’s just a short-term solution says operations manager at Metro Property Management, Erin O’Reilly.
She says they’re looking for a long-term residence, but they’re also looking for donations of clothes, personal items, and furniture to help get the students, who don’t have the support of family, back on their feet.
She says while they’re working on sorting out the housing, the students have nothing from personal care items to the computers they need to carry out their studies. “This is a nightmare for them,” says O’Reilly.
A list of needed items and clothing sizes can be found on the Metro Property Management Facebook page, while donations can be dropped off at the office at 1204 Topsail Road or by calling 237-5804.
