A Brigus man accused of sexually assaulting an elderly resident of the Bay Roberts Retirement Centre has pleaded not guilty.
Forty-four-year-old Chris Power entered the plea this morning in a Harbour Grace courtroom.
Power also elected to be tried by judge in provincial court, with a trial date set for early October.
He’s also charged with falsifying and uttering forged documents, as well as passing himself off as a licensed practical nurse.
He has yet to enter a plea to those charges, which will be dealt with separately.
RCMP began investigating last August after receiving a complaint that Power, a personal care attendant, sexually assaulted a resident at the retirement home. He was arrested at that home on August 16 but wasn’t formally charged until late September.
There is a publication ban on the identity of the alleged victim.
Power remains free on several court-imposed conditions.
