It’s only the second day of summer, and heat warnings have already been issued for parts of the island today.
Meteorologist with the Gander Weather Office, Jody Boyd, says it’s not likely to break records, but temperatures will be just under 30 degrees.
Heat warnings are in effect from the Deer Lake and Green Bay-White Bay area to Gander and Bonavista North. Boyd says the criteria for a heat warning, two hot days with a night in between that doesn’t cool off, will be met in central and northeastern Newfoundland.
Southeastern Newfoundland will see mainly sunny skies with highs around 26. This evening, however, clouds will move in with a chance of showers for some areas before morning.
Boyd says Clarenville is expecting highs around 28, close to a recording-breaking temperature but not quite. He says it will be humid across the island, but not stifling.
