As per Western Health: Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are both mRNA vaccines and are now interchangeable. When booking you will need to select mRNA vaccine as your appointment type. At the clinic you will be provided with either Moderna or Pfizer depending on vaccine availability. At this time, Pfizer is the only vaccine approved for individuals aged 12-17. The Pfizer vaccine will be available at all locations for this age group.
The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) now recommends a mRNA vaccine for individuals who received a first dose of AstraZeneca vaccine. Those who have currently scheduled second dose appointment for AstraZeneca can either change their appointment and book a mRNA vaccine or at the time of their appointment they can choose a mRNA or AstraZeneca.
Western Health is strongly encouraging all residents to be vaccinated against COVID-19. To book an appointment at one of the clinics in the Western Health region, please visit www.gov.nl.ca/covid-19/vaccine/gettheshot/.
