A former downtown bar owner accused of sex offences against two children has waived his right to a bail hearing.
That means 35-year-old Chris Carter will remain at Her Majesty’s Penitentiary at least until his next court date in July. That’s when he’s expected to enter pleas to the charges against him which include sexual assault, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, and sexual exploitation.
The incidents are alleged to have occurred between January and May of this year.
Carter’s case has triggered gatherings outside the court to draw attention to the charges.
Mark Day has been speaking for the dozen or so who have shown up outside Atlantic Place for each court date. He says they just want to make sure the public are aware of the serious charges against Carter, who he described as a prolific member of the community.
Carter sat subdued with his head down for his brief appearance by video from HMP yesterday.
The musician and former co-owner of the Valhalla nightclub is due back in court July 6.
