A large portion of Labrador is now under an extreme forest fire risk. The warning is for Labrador West through the Upper Lake Melville region. As well, the risk of forest fire in southeastern Labrador is “very high.”
Under those advisories, open or outdoor fires are not permitted within 300 meters of forest land.
The use of propane barbeques and propane fire units is permitted.
Permits issued for the burning of grass, brush, or other waste materials are considered invalid when the hazard rating is high, very high, or extreme.
Anyone with questions is asked to contact the Forest Management District Office in the area where the fire is planned. To report a forest fire, call 1-866-709-3473.
