A 43-year-old man has been charged in connection with a reckless near-miss episode on the Burin Peninsula Highway earlier this week that forced a number of drivers to take evasive action to narrowly avoid a head-on collision.
Dashcam video footage shows the driver of a white pickup pulling into oncoming traffic while attempting to pass another vehicle. Drivers heading in the opposite direction are seen swerving out of the way of the oncoming truck with split seconds and inches to spare.
One driver was left with minor injuries after his vehicle ended up off the asphalt after being sideswiped.
Police located the driver of the pickup, a man from Lawn, who allegedly gave officers a false name.
The accused is facing a long list of charges in connection with the incident including dangerous driving causing injury, obstruction, driving while suspended, passing when unsafe to do so, crossing a centre line, and failing to identify himself.
The investigation continues.
