Drivers can expect a bit of a slowdown on the Trans Canada in central Newfoundland until further notice due to the state of the Aspen Brook Bridge.
The speed limit on the bridge, which is approximately 20 km west of Grand Falls-Windsor, was reduced to 30 km/h after the Department of Transportation recommended that the structure be replaced. The department says a tender is expected to be issued later this month for a road diversion around the bridge.
Traffic according to government can proceed safely across the bridge at reduced speeds.
A 2018 bridge inspection report on the 57-year-old span identified potholes, as well as cracks and breaks in the structure.
