Another tagged great white shark has “pinged” off the east coast of Newfoundland.
Helena is a 12′ 5″ female shark, weighing in at nearly 2,000. She pinged approximately 100 kilometres east of St. John’s on July 9.
The American-based shark research group Ocearch has been tagging and monitoring the movements of great white sharks primarily in the western Atlantic for years.
Years ago, a massive female great white, dubbed Lydia, made international headlines after making her way all the way into the bottom of Placentia Bay. It was one of the few confirmed great white recordings in Canadian waters at the time.
Since then, numerous sharks have been tracked into the waters surrounding Newfoundland.
