Tourism operators in Newfoundland and Labrador are starting to see a rebound from the COVID-19 pandemic, but there is still a ways to go in returning to pre-pandemic levels.
That’s according to Captain Barry Rogers, President of Iceberg Quest tours.
Yesterday, operators in the tourism industry met at Mallard Cottage, calling on the federal government to do more to show Canadians that it is safe to explore the country.
Rogers says that in the weeks since the province opened its borders to the rest of Canada he has had guests from across the country, but St. John’s is still “quiet” in comparison to pre-pandemic years.
He says in a good year, normally the province has about an 8 week peak season, now that window is so closed that businesses are on the precipice. So the urgency is there.
“We’re ready to rock and roll,” says Rogers, who states that they need the federal government to build the confidence of the country and promote that it’s safe to travel.
