Conservation Corps Newfoundland and Labrador is making preparations for upcoming education initiatives in the fall.
The provincial government has officially announced $147,000 for the organization, which Programs Manager Megan Stuckless says will go towards education programs for the upcoming school year.
She explains that, as long as COVID protocols allow, their teams will be travelling to schools across the province providing climate change education. If they can’t travel, the programs will be delivered virtually.
Stuckless says the money will also go towards youth-lead climate action projects province-wide. In total, she says that their programs reach about 20,000 people per year.
Stuckless believes such programs are “critically important.” She says an educated population is an empowered population. She believes that giving people everyday solutions helps to instill a conservation mindset.
