Some parts of the island got an unexpected deluge this morning, including the metro region which saw about 40 mm of rain in a short period.
It was actually the highest rate of rainfall ever recorded by weather watcher Kelly Butt – 172 mm per hour.
Only slight amounts of rain were expected but roads quickly became waterlogged amid the claps of thunder. Some vehicles stalled in the pooling water.
The entire island has been into a dry spell so the lawns, ponds and rivers welcomed the big drink.
