There’s a major traffic interruption happening this weekend on the Avalon Peninsula. The Trans Canada Highway between the Holyrood Access Road and the Foxtrap Access Road will be closed for a culvert replacement starting Friday at 5 p.m. Work will be happening daytime and overnight all weekend.
Weir’s Construction has the contract for $537,000.
All four lanes will be closed, so eastbound drivers will have to divert at Salmonier Line (Route 90), Holyrood Access Road (Route 62) and Witless Bay Line (Route 13). Westbound traffic can detour at Foxtrap Access Road (Route 13) and Witless Bay Line (Route 13).
Eastbound motorists going to Butter Pot Park will be permitted access to the TCH beyond the detour, while westbound motorists will be required to travel through the detour to access the park due to the location of the construction area.
Signs and control measures will be in place to direct travellers.
The highway is expected to reopen Monday morning.
