Increased concerns are being raised about a capital city proposal to develop affordable housing on two local green spaces.
Concerned citizens have called a meeting for this evening at the Bowring Park Bungalow to discuss the city’s plans for two vacant city-owned pieces of land—one near Bowring Park and the other near Quidi Vidi Lake.
Author, broadcaster and journalist Anne Budgell says while she supports initiatives to develop more affordable housing, she questions the logic behind developing much-needed green space.
She says it doesn’t make sense for the city to naturalize some areas while destroying natural spaces.
“How do you square putting trees in an area that requires more trees, and cutting down trees in an area that’s natural right now, in order to build houses?” she asks.
Tonight’s meeting is scheduled for 6:30 and city officials have been invited.
