The team behind Son of a Critch opened the doors to their set today for a special glimpse into the production.
The television series is based on the memoires of actor and comedian Mark Critch.
Critch plays his father Mike Critch—a long-time VOCM reporter who was well known for his colourful turn of phrase in his crime reporting.
The series also stars acting giant Malcolm McDowell of A Clockwork Orange fame as Mark’s grandfather, while child star Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, featured in the popular Netflix series The Haunting of Bly Manor, plays Mark.
The set is a recreation of Critch’s childhood home, complete with wallpaper, flowery couches and green countertops.
Premier Andrew Furey praised the attention to detail.
“It’s like I just walked in to my grandmother’s house,” Furey joked. He said he was struggling with what was more impressive, the acting or the set design.
Furey says through talking with people on productions like the show and Disney’s Peter Pan and Wendy, he’s getting positive feedback on the film and television industry in the province.
He says they all say that there is great potential for the industry here.
