One man has been arrested and is facing dozens of firearms charges following an investigation in the Marystown area this week.
Police converged on two locations on the Burin Peninsula Wednesday – Main Brook Road in Winterland, and Villa Marie Drive west of Power’s Lane in Marystown. They indicated at that time that they were involved in an ongoing investigation and there was no risk to the public.
The investigation began in late July when police received information that a man was in violation of a firearm prohibition.
On Wednesday, police pulled 47-year-old Ashley Brinston of Marystown over to take him into custody. RCMP say a loaded, prohibited firearm was found in the vehicle within arm’s reach of Brinston, and a second firearm and ammunition was also located.
Police conducted searches of two properties in the Winterland and Marystown areas. RCMP seized a number of firearms, some of which are prohibited, along with a number of other prohibited devices and several thousand rounds of ammunition.
Brinston is now facing 58 firearms-related charges. He appeared in court on Friday and was remanded to custody pending a bail hearing which is set for September 21st. The investigation continues.
