The city of St. John’s will be holding its weekly council meeting virtually today due to a COVID-19 exposure at city hall.
The city says the decision to move to a virtual format has been made out of an abundance of caution. All councilors will be attending remotely.
Details about the circumstances surrounding the exposure have not been released.
Meanwhile, a controversial development is back on the city’s agenda tonight.
The Cathedral Parish Hall was once a designated heritage structure but fires and renovations over the years did away with most of the building’s heritage value.
The building is in the process of being torn down, with character-defining elements of the structure, such as the archway, being preserved. The developer has proposed that those pieces be used in an interpretive art piece on the site.
Today, city council will decide whether or not to approve a revised design for the townhouses, which includes some new materials being used, the size and placement of some windows changed and the addition of balconies on the third floor.
Today’s council meeting begins at 3 p.m.
