Two long-time employees of a local non-profit are being recognized for their contributions to the local craft industry.
The Newfoundland Outport Nursing and Industrial Association was founded in the 1920s, with the goal of raising funds by selling knitted items to support nursing services in outport communities.
The organization is still running strong over 100 years later, being backed by dedicated knitters across the province.
Florence Rose of Salmon Cove knit for 28 years, while Yvonne Shepard of Bristol’s Hope contributed for 30 years.
The duo recently visited a monument commemorating NONIA’s work at Government House in St. John’s, where they were greeted by Lieutenant Governor, Judy Foote.
