Some are raising questions about the business side of things at Mile One, soon to become the Mary Brown’s Centre, after the company signed a sponsorship deal with the city for $1.5-million – $150,000 a year for ten years.
The deal came out of the blue, with no clear evidence of a call for proposals to get the best sponsorship agreement possible.
Jeff Lush, who has experience in negotiating corporate sponsorships in the sporting world, believes the bar has been set low.
He thought the dollar figure would have been higher given that 20 years ago, naming rights were sold for $100,000 a year.
He says he’s happy to see more money coming to Mile One, but he wonders if the city left money on the table.
