Residents of the Colinet area are taking shovel in hand and filling some of the many hundreds of potholes on the 12 km stretch of the Markland Road between their area and the TCH at Whitbourne.
The gravel road more resembles bubble wrap than a transportation route and government has told the users that grading will be done only twice a year.
They use the road for medical appointments, banking, groceries and to access points beyond including construction sites.
Stephanie Nash-Pearce says the road was upgraded about five years ago in anticipation of asphalt, but the asphalt never came.
Residents are being told by government that the damage was caused by Hurricane Larry but Nash-Pearce says that is not so.
They have collected their own gravel and are bringing their shovels to start filling in some of the potholes this afternoon. The Markland Road was voted the 4th worst in Canada a few years ago.
