The province’s Chief Medical Officer of Health is chalking the lack of widespread infections of COVID-19 in the Marystown area to the power of vaccination.
There are 77 cases linked to the Marystown cluster, most of which are unvaccinated school-aged children.
Dr. Janice Fitzgerald says that they have seen less cases in the broader community on the Burin Peninsula, due to the province’s high vaccination rate.
She says if vaccination rates were where they were in February, the spread would have been much more significant.
