The company building a cold storage facility in Conception Bay South now has all the necessary permits in hand and can begin construction when it so chooses.
The controversial project, which involves infilling a portion of Long Pond Harbour, was approved by the town council last summer and was recently upheld by the Eastern Newfoundland Regional Appeal Board.
Ocean Choice International is expected to spend $15-20-million developing the facility which, according to Mayor Darrin Bent, will result in significant economic spin-off and provide a boost to the Long Pond Harbour Authority.
OCI president Blaine Sullivan says the development will see about 1.7 hectares of new land developed that will house a 90-metre-long finger pier, a laydown and parking area as well as a cold storage building where their frozen-at-sea products will be stored until shipped to global markets.
Mayor Bent says his town is open for business, and one of the priorities of council will be attracting business.
Construction will begin in the next few months.
